One of the best restaurants in Padua is Restaurant Montegrande, where we recommend to try their risotto with provolone and Serpino wine; paella with fish. Nestling in the green of Euganei Hills, the restaurant is located in the street that leads to the little suburb of Rovolon. In 1972, Attilio and his son Silvano Cristofanon started their business. Now the restaurant is run by Silvano, his wife Marilena and their two daughters Elena (who has been president of the Paduan Restaurant Owners Association for four years) and Giulia. The restaurant has three large rooms on the first floor, a terrace with a breathtaking view of the valley and a tavern. Special attention is given to local dishes and seasonal products. As starters, the chef Giampaolo Benato prepares a delicious walnut bread with an homemade duck ham and shrimp tails with Venus rice and curry sauce. Main course of the restaurant is risotto (rise): recommended are Risotto with shrimps and melon or risotto with provolone (Italian cheese) and Serpino wine. As a second course, maître Silvano Cristofanon recommends stewed beef with balsamic vinegar and honey or polenta (a maize flour-based dish) with baccalà (salt cod). Desserts are all homemade: mille-feuille, fig and radicchio (chicory) tart with Euganei Hills’ extra virgin olive oil ice-cream and so forth.
