One of the best restaurants in Padua is Restaurant Trattoria Antico Molino, where we recommend to try the original 'straeca' of Sorana meat. A true mill built in 1565, that worked until about twenty years ago, fulfilling the social function to ensure flour, meal and grains ground to the countryside in the area. It is located on the edge of a basin of water and the machinery is still visible, as in a museum suspended between the technical and the ethnographic. Andrea Bergamasco, the current owner, has made it a cozy, spacious and bright restaurant. On weekends, the upper floor is transformed into a musical meeting place for many young people. But the restaurant below, with its ancient stone walls, is sufficiently isolated. The meat of sorana is the best proposal of this place. It can be even appreciated as a starter, lightly marinated and enhanced by an excellent olive oil. Then, in the second course, there is also a version of 'straeca' derived from the diaphragm of the animal, a real delight. Among the first courses here are the traditional proposals, as 'bigoli' sauce or rice dishes inspired by the season (in spring with herbs). The kitchen of Antico Mulino also offers some plate of fruit slightly revisited, even if the reference to tradition is constant. Among the starters, the pies prepared with seasonal vegetables are very interesting. The tasting menu offers a beautiful location at the cost of 30 euros. The restaurant often organizes themed evening of good cultural interest.
