The best food in town

Restaurant La Tavernetta

One of the best restaurants in Padua is Restaurant La Tavernetta, where we recommend to try their homemade pasta and Gianduia chocolate cake with vanilla sauce.. In the Sixties, Erwin Mazagg moved from the Italian region of Alto Adige to the Veneto valley and became the owner of the legendary restaurant Gambero Di Este. It got one Michelin star in 1967 and it quickly became a meeting place for gourmets and the local jet set. Now, the splendor of the restaurant Gambero lives again in the Tavernetta, in Fontanafredda, thanks to the initiative and the ability of Chiara Mazagg, who years ago convinced her father Erwin to run a new restaurant. Even his wife, Maria Teresa Franchin, is involved in the family business. She is native of Teolo and met her husband during his first experience as a chef in Padova. In a welcoming and intimate atmosphere, guests can taste the original creations of the chef: the delicious Greek pasta with Taleggio cheese, speck (smoked ham) and sweet eggplants on a vegetables cream, or pastry cooked in the oven with cured ham, brie cheese and fresh porcini mushrooms. As a first course: taglierini pasta with truffle of Norcia and goose breast, or tortellacci pasta filled with Fontina cheese from Val d’Aosta, zucchini flowers and smoked ricotta cheese. And then fettuccine pasta with fresh beans or risotto (rice) with asparagus or herbs. As a second course: meat-based dishes such as game meat, goat cooked in the oven, Tuscan chop, roast and grilled meat. As a dessert plate: white chocolate mousse with soft fruit sauce or walnuts brittle semifreddo with hot chocolate and fresh cream.
