One of the best restaurants in Padua is Restaurant Valpomaro, where we recommend to try their house bigoli pasta, with ragù of a mix of farmyard meat. The Bonello Family has recently received the Traditional Paduan Cooking Prize. The restaurant, which few months ago celebrated 50 years of activity, is located in a breathtaking location, between Mont Fasolo and Petrarca’s village. From the shady square with olive trees you can admire the magic view of Arquà Petrarca and the valley. We are at the south slope of Euganei Hills, the “mediterranean” slope. Orazio Bonello, together with his mother, opened the restaurant in 1957, offering homemade products: wine, salumi, olive oil, herbs... that are still present in the restaurant kitchen, now run by his son-in-law Andrea and his wife Lazzarina, who gave a new twist to the restaurant. Menu follows the products’ seasonality, although it always includes traditional local recipes. As starters: house salumi (cold cuts), grilled vegetables mille-feuille with cheese and anchovy oil, tuna carpaccio with citrus fruits and mint. As a first course, House bigoli pasta, spelt fusilli pasta with radicchio (chicory) and duck sausage, tagliolini pasta with lamb ragù (meat-based tomato sauce) and artichokes, risotto (rice). As a second course: fish-based dishes such as sardines fillet au gratin with onion cream or stewed baccalà (salt cod) with Arquà olive oil and meat-based dishes such as wild boar stewed in a tomato, wine and herb sauce with polenta (a maize flour-based dish), stewed chicken, pork fillet with artichokes and radicchio (chicory).
